Helpful information on machine guarding.
It is now a legal requirement for users of working equipment to meet the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998.What this means for manufacturers is that work equipment such as machine tools and machinery must be fitted with effective guarding systems.
The most relevant section of P.U.W.E.R 98 is “ regulation 11. Dangerous parts of machinery” and “Appendix 2: Further guidance on regulation 11- Dangerous parts of machinery”.
The complete set of regulations and useful guidance is available from HSE Books.
Failure to comply with P.U.W.E.R. 98 can have serious consequences leading to unlimited fines and even imprisonment for the directors responsible for Health and Safety in the company.
